Launch of the Year of Glaciers Preservation 2025: From Mountains to Glaciers: Tackling Plastic Waste for a Resilient Future

Objectives

The side event aims to:

• Highlight the impact of plastic waste in mountainous regions on glaciers and ecosystems, emphasizing the link between plastic pollution and climate change.
• Showcase Tajikistan’s leadership under the International Year of Glaciers Preservation 2025 and its contributions to both glacier preservation and plastic waste management.
• Share lessons learned from the BRS-funded projects in Central Asia and promote regional collaboration under the Mountain Partnership and other frameworks.
• Inspire international collaboration and actionable solutions for glacier protection through sustainable plastic waste management.
